To prepare graduates who are ready for independence, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) organizes various entrepreneurship and business training programs. One of them is the Entrepreneur Day Workshop and Expo, which attracted the attention of hundreds of students on December 2-3. More than 300 participants joined, with over 30 expo stands offering unique attractions. Some of the products featured were the results of research, entrepreneurship programs, and other initiatives.

The workshop, themed ‘How to Create a Business Idea into a Pitching Scenario,’ was presented by Andy Febrico Bintoro, Co-Founder and CTO of Maxy Academy. He explained that an entrepreneur must master the art of pitching, which is the skill of convincing investors. Pitching is crucial as it serves as the key to making decisions about investments.

“Therefore, pitching is a critical skill for an entrepreneur. There are several aspects to consider in this process, such as how to briefly present the key and compelling points of the brand or product you have,” he emphasized.

Toro, as he is known, mentioned that everything will feel challenging when running a business. That’s why entrepreneurs need to understand the unique selling point (USP) of their brand or product. This allows business founders to confidently present their product’s strengths to investors, even comparing them to competitors.

Additionally, according to Toro, when pitching, an entrepreneur must be honest and transparent about the USP of their brand or product. This is important because many investors have expert teams that conduct analyses and evaluations of companies they may invest in. “Moreover, many investors are also members of associations with other investors. If our product gets a bad reputation, that information can quickly spread among investors,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nur Subeki, Vice Rector III of UMM, stated that becoming an entrepreneur requires adaptability. Entrepreneurs must be able to spot business opportunities, understand the market, create superior products, and work well with teams. These are essential qualities for success in entrepreneurship.
