The rapid advancement of digital technology requires teachers to adapt and master digital-based teaching skills. In response, the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) inaugurated an Information and Communication Technology-based Learning Resource Center (PSB) laboratory on February 7. Notably, the center was inaugurated by Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Prof. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed.

“To advance the country’s education, we must focus on the future. This includes two key foundations: the skills and character of each educator, who are the nation’s future leaders,” he said.

According to him, digital technology is expected to dominate and replace certain human roles. Some sectors that rely on manual labor will shift to digital or robotic technology to enhance efficiency. Therefore, character development is a crucial aspect in achieving the vision of a Golden Indonesia by 2045.

Furthermore, Mu'ti emphasized that technology is not the sole element in education; the role of the educator is crucial. The teacher’s task is not only to transfer knowledge but also to transform it. Teachers must be able to serve as helpers, guides, and companions to students, supporting them through both the challenges and joys of the learning process. Educators must also master fundamental scientific principles and assist students in applying their knowledge. In this regard, the PSB is seen as a tool that helps teachers foster innovation. The PSB at UMM is also considered in line with the concept of deep learning, which will be part of the Ministry of Education and Culture's upcoming policy.

In addition, Mu'ti emphasized the importance of current learning systems, media, and the overall atmosphere in the educational process. Positive and meaningful interactions can help nurture strong future leaders of the nation. Mu'ti also expressed his gratitude to UMM for its role as a partner in educating future professional teachers. “I hope that PPG UMM graduates will contribute to advancing national education, particularly in line with our national vision and our responsibility to provide quality education for all. Great Teachers, Strong Indonesia!” he stated.

On the other hand, UMM Rector Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., expressed that UMM warmly and enthusiastically welcomed the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture, who is also the General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah. As a business charity of Muhammadiyah, UMM has long been at the forefront of education, having been active in the field for over 60 years. Meanwhile, FKIP remains one of the oldest and most prominent faculties at UMM.

"UMM's main mission is to produce a new generation of qualified individuals for the nation. The PSB is a tangible result of the collaboration between UMM and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, and it is expected to help future teachers develop modern learning systems and media," he added.

The same sentiment was shared by the Dean of FKIP UMM, Prof. Trisakti Handayani, M.M. He stated that the PSB is a significant advantage for the PPG FKIP UMM participants, especially with the recent achievement of exceeding the standard set for PPG UMM. Regarding alumni, Trisakti emphasized that many PPG graduates are trusted and capable of competing in the field of education.

“Coincidentally, PPG FKIP UMM has received a certification that exceeds the standard. With the PSB, students will certainly become accustomed to creating digital modules, developing digital-based learning media, and designing digital learning tools,” she said. (vin/nam/wil/mrh)
