"Spreading benefits to society" is the motto of students at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). One example is Fathur Reyhan Rahayanto and his team, who taught high school students how to handle natural disasters on February 18. Interestingly, they collaborated with UMM's Disaster Preparedness Volunteer Students (Maharesigana) to deliver the material.
Fathur explained that the seminar aimed to raise awareness and understanding among the public, especially students and young people, about how to better respond to and manage natural disasters. This way, students will know what to do when faced with a disaster situation.

“There are several materials provided such as various disaster mitigation strategies, evacuation techniques, and the importance of preparedness in dealing with emergency situations,” he added.
Some tips given by Maharesigana regarding evacuation strategies include avoiding panic and always following instructions and cooperating with officers. In addition, if possible, work tools related to electricity are turned off and do not delay leaving the building if you are inside. It is also important to keep important phone numbers such as police, BPBD, fire department and hospital.
In the future, Fathuer hopes that this program can continue to various schools. At least the younger generation can know the right way to deal with disasters. The presence of Maharesigana UMM is also proof of UMM's commitment to continue educating the community through various training programs and other seminars. This training is also clear evidence that students not only play a role in the academic field, but also have an active role in helping the community to create a safer and more disaster resilient environment.
On the other hand, the collaboration for safety with this activity received a positive response from the participants, including the students of SMK Muhammadiyah Pagak. They were very enthusiastic in participating in the discussions and simulations. They were given basic training in dealing with various types of disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and fires.
“This seminar is very useful for us as the younger generation to better understand the steps that must be taken in the event of a disaster. We hope that activities like this can continue in the future,” said the IPM Chairman of SMK Muhammadiyah Pagak.
Fathur was not alone, he was accompanied by other friends in the team. Among them are Devi Anggraini, Stella Nuri Putri Sinaga, Ditya Achmarian Sagriya Bangga, and Mohamad Fakhri. They worked together to run this program with guidance from lecturer Havidz Ageng Prakoso, S.IP, M.A. (*/wil/ind)
